“Time Heals”, So They Say!

4 Sep

3T7A7466 When someone is going through a rough time we like to tell that person, “time will heal”. Sometimes we don’t even know to what extent that person is hurting- but nothing seems or feels easier than to tell him or her that better day is ahead.

In the past couple years I have lost a few people who met everything to me. One of them was my mother’s one and only brother who passed away in Haiti. That one really hit home for me! Before he passed away, I was working in Haiti. And I only “made time” to see him once.  I truly thought I was a “busy bee” and assumed I had all the times in the World to see my uncle: especially when I already made plan for the following year to go back. I left Haiti and the following day, my uncle passed. I was crushed! Had I known, I would have made my uncle a priority. My uncle passed five years ago and it still hurts today. Mainly because I was away from my family and friends when I was mourning. I was in college and it seemed like I had no shoulder to cry on.

With Age Comes…

24 Apr

IMG_4239The day I turn 28, I started addressing myself as if I just turned 40. Not that I’m saying 40 is old- but I’m 28 years old for Christ sake! I feel older than I actually am and sometimes I feel like I should have known more or have already accomplished more things.

I like to believe with age comes maturity; and for me, I want to be able to do things by myself, depending on myself more. A couple years ago, you couldn’t force me to dine out or to attend church alone. You couldn’t force me to do anything solitary, unless it had to do with my living space: that I can’t compromise.

The Journey Continues…: Finding my Light

21 Jan

IMG_5087Most people choose Thanksgiving Day to express how thankful they are– annnd that is it! Coming from me, I know all about it, some of my family, we only speak on the day of thanksgiving. So we would express how proud we are and thankful we are to have one another in our lives. Why should we wait for an entire year, for that one particular day to express our thoughts? What good does it do? Why don’t we do it daily? You want to know something? I am thankful of you, yes YOU. You, who give me, hope EVERYDAY to go after my DREAM. I am thankful for you for continuing to read my blog.

When Nights and Days become One

8 Mar

Camera1

At the beginning of the year, I promise that I was going to do monthly-posts, I am keeping that promise; boy I did not expect February to be that hectic. The month was over before I could even imagined- the good thing, I overcame it so no complaining.

I enjoyed February, and I hope you did, as well.  I started pre-production of my film on the first week of the month- meaning, holding auditions, meeting up with my cinematopher, scouting for locations, finding an editor and casting the rest of the crew. All this had to be done within a month. I was nervous, I didn’t think I was going to be able to handle it all, since this was my first, ever film that I am directing, producing and let alone it was written by me.  With the way things are going right now, I am very happy.  We are scheduling to start shooting the last week of March, as nervous that I am- I cannot wait.

My New Year’s Resolution: Self-concentration

4 Jan

DSC_0717A man who goes by the name Carl Bard once said, “ Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” It is a brand new year- although it seems like it was 2010 yesterday.   Every year, we all come up with what known as “New year’s resolution”. Some people choose to take better care of themselves, to lose or gain weight, pick up a new hobby, etc.- but the reality, by the first week of Feb., some people can’t even remember what their resolution was.

For the past years, I have always had the same resolution- to start working out. It was the same thing for many years, mainly because I never took initiative.  I would say it, but I would not start working out- unless I had to attend a special event and I wanted to lose a couple pounds or to “toned-up”.  I would’ve worked out for one or two weeks, but then I would’ve fallen back- there was no motivation. Everything changed when I started grad school and working out was the only thing that kept me from pulling out my hair- there, I found my motivation. So what’s the point of coming with resolutions if we’re not going to stick with them?

How do You deal With Stress?

7 Aug

ImageEveryone has million ways of handling things differently; whether they are positive or negative- we tend to find ways that will help us resolve them easily. When it comes to stress, what works for one may not be able to work for another. We all have experienced some times- where we need someone or something for comfort. Some people turn to spiritual aspects- such as God, music, books, others might turn to people- and some might even turn to drugs or alcohol. We may disagree to that person for who or what he or she turns to- but that’s her or his ways of finding “comfort”.
